Removing Warts: Home Remedies

May 16th, 2011

Millions of people all over the world develop warts. The bottom line is that they are more of an embarrassment - a social issue - than a medical difficulty. Some people just put up with them and others cannot tolerate them and have to have them taken away immediately, if not sooner.

The fact is that warts are non-malignant growths. Non-malignant cancers, if you like, but the operative description is 'non-malignant' which means 'harmless'.

If you want to remove any warts that you have, it is not a problem. Perhaps, it is easier to see warts as flowers or rather weeds flourishing on your skin. You can kill them. There are a number of methods of doing this 'weed killing'.

You can go to a doctor or a dermatologist. This is a sure-fire means of getting rid them, but depending on where you live can be costly. Or you can attempt doing it yourself first. After all, if you do not succeed, it will not have cost you much and you can then go to a doctor later.

One of the easiest methods that I have discovered is the use of Salicylic acid. It sounds terribly dangerous and painful, but I can assure you that it is not. Salicylic acid is an ingredient of many shop-bought home remedies for getting shot of warts. Only check on the labels of wart removal products.

A few moments after applying salisylic acid, the top of the wart will turn white. After a couple of days of application, the wart will look like an open cauliflower and it will reveal itself as the weed that it is. (Not really, obviously). Soon thereafter, it will start to break away - literally to fall offbit by bit - and there will be no scar at all.

I had lots of warts as a child. Mostly on my fingers alongside my finger nails and although my mother wanted to take me to the doctor to have them 'burned' off by frost, I did not like the notion. Salicylic acid was suggested by a neighbour and there was no looking back.

However, as a foot note, I want to add one more home remedy. A few years after the trauma of having loads of warts on my hands as an infant schoolboy, I grew a wart on the tip of my nose. Needless to say, my classmates found that hilarious and some of them tried to make my life a misery.

An aunty of mine, Aunty Lil, came to the house one day to 'get rid of this problem once and for all'. She took a chunk of beef steak out of her bag - it was around two ounces in weight - and she rubbed it on my nose, or on the wart on my nose anyway and then she went out into the garden.

My mother and I watched her through the widow. She carefully dug a shallow hole and laid the steak in it. Then she covered it over, tramped it down and came back inside.

'When the meat has rotted,' she said, 'your wart will fall off'. Five or six days later, my wart fell off whilst I was washing and it has never reappeared - not in fifty years.

Home Cures For Stress And Anxiety

May 10th, 2011

A surfeit of stress can result in all types of problems both mental and physical. The mental issues that can arise from stress include anxiety attacks, although there can be other reasons for anxiety attacks as well. Furthermore, it appears that the trend of anxiety attacks is on the up. This is possibly because of the increased levels of stress that everyone feels.

You just cannot escape tales of misery and conflict in the newspapers and on the TV. It seems that news casters take pleasure in in telling us how much trouble we are in from all sorts of things from terrorists to diabetes.

They also never tire of warning us of the risks from paedophiles, rapists and murderers. It is no surprise that everybody is stressed or that some people have converted this stress into anxiety and anxiety attacks or panic attacks.

These attacks are characterized by a sudden sensation of panic for no reason at all or unwarranted anxiety. These anxiety attacks are very upsetting for those who suffer from them regularly.

There are many prescription drugs available, but these days many people try to do without drugs, preferring more natural cures. One detail that many sufferers remark on, is that they feel much worse if they have a hangover.

Not that they have anxiety attacks while they are drinking, but that they get an increased number the following day, if they have a hangover. It follows then, that you may be able to reduce the frequency and the severity of your panic attacks, if you do not drink too much.

In this vein, sufferers have also noticed that they get more frequent and more severe attacks of anxiety if they are exhausted or worn out. Getting a good night's rest will undoubtedly help, if this is one of the causes of your panic or anxiety attacks.

On the dietary front, vitamin B12 has been pointed to as having a beneficial effect on sufferers. The vitamin B group help the brain to create serotonin, which is the body's happy drug. A lack of serotonin can create depression. Therefore, ensure that you get your daily recommended amount (RDA) of vitamins in the B group, especially vitamin B12. B12 is readily available in natural foods, it is even in cornflakes, just make sure that you are in receipt of sufficient.

Many people have had large amounts of success by limiting their intake of sweeteners too. This includes natural sugar, as well as artificial sweeteners like saccharin. In order to achieve the biggest benefit you should try to monitor your mental reaction to sweeteners. Some may be perfectly OK for you while others may not.

Caffeine has also been linked with anxiety, so it might be worth attempting to do without ordinary tea, coffee and coke, to see if that makes a difference. You could try decaf, if you miss the taste of coffee or herbal teas.

Another suggested home remedy that has provided great benefits is physical activity. If you feel an attack coming on, try to 'take your mind off it' by distracting yourself. A simple walk might be enough or a chat with someone.

Chronic Headaches

May 4th, 2011

Most people who only get headaches very infrequently perhaps do not realize that there are different types of headache. Different sorts of headaches affect different parts of the head and even headaches that affect the same area last different lengths of time. The ones that last the longest, giving almost constant pain, are known as chronic headaches.

Chronic headaches can seem like episodic migraine - a throbbing in the temples - but unlike episodic migraine, chronic headaches can go on for days, weeks, months and even years. One of the causes of chronic headaches is stress.

One of the features of these headaches is that the stress can escalate in a vicious circle. That is, stress brings on the headache, then you worry about the headache which causes more stress, which causes more pain and so on. This is a very tough cycle of events for some people to break out of.

You can even bring on a stress-related chronic headache by worrying that you might have a headache. It is very depressing, because it seems that you just cannot win.

Sufferers of chronic headaches have a miserable time of it and normally make life miserable for everybody near them too. Therefore, if you are in continuous pain, do something about it.

The first thing to attempt is to discover the reason for your stress or concern. Something is triggering your headaches and you almost certainly know what it is.

You have to scrutinize your life and find out what is so upsetting in it. Is it your partner, your career, your neighbours or your children? Is it an illness of yours or a close friend or member of the family? Money and debts? It could be a combination of several causes, in which case, you will have to de-stress them one by one.

This is the only sure method of countering chronic headaches that are caused by stress. You can take tablets to kill the pain and tablets to put you to sleep and tablets to calm you down, but in the long term, you know that they are not really helping and that knowledge will stress you out even more.

Other types of chronic headaches are chronic cluster headaches and chronic tension headaches. Episodic cluster headaches will occur each now and again, but chronic cluster headaches come about several times a day for years. Somewhere between 10% an 15% of sufferers from cluster headaches get chronic indications.

There are several names for chronic cluster headaches depending on the gravity of the pain.

An episodic tension headache is the most common kind of headache. Everyone gets them from time to time, but a chronic tension headache is when you get periods of pain lasting for at least 15 days in a three month period.

If you suffer from chronic headaches, do not just take medication or do not just sit it out. You require professional advice once you think that you have a problem. You could strive to tackle it alone by taking up a sport or yoga to reduce your stress and tension, but it actually is better for you to tackle the difficulty of chronic headaches with the support of a professional.

Owen Jones, the author of this article, writes on a number of topics, but is at present concerned with chronic headaches. If you want to find out more go to Stopping Headaches.

When Fear Is A Part Of Life At School

April 30th, 2011

Do you have happy memories of your school years? Do you have happy memories of teachers and school friends? If you do then you were lucky, because some kids hate every minute of being in school and not because they are no good at it either. Often it is the clever children who are bullied for being swots and teachers' pets. They are safe and sound in the class, but the travelling to and from school and the school breaks can be nightmares.

However, it is not only bullying from other children that causes fear in school children. There are other reasons for fear in school as well. Occasionally, children think that a certain teacher does not like them and sometimes children are just frightened of failing or doing badly. Occasionally teachers are frightened of doing badly as well. It can all lead to an atmosphere of fear at school. It makes you ask yourself how anyone could have enjoyed their school days, does it not?

This atmosphere of fear can become greater in state schools because the teachers are subject to success charts and the children are more open to bullying. Furthermore, all of the school shootings in the world have taken place in state run schools.

However, the most insidious kind of fear in school comes from teachers who are scared of missing the targets set by the state, because that will cost them their jobs. This fear is passed on to their students. The regime of fear is exacerbated by over-sized classes. Why?

Because teachers can hold the attention of only so many pupils - as we all can in normal discourse. Therefore, if the class is too large, the teacher will have to switch roles from being a teacher to a controller. When this occurs, education suffers for the sake of keeping order.

For all of these reasons and more, many parents are turning to home schooling. Some of the reasons why parents are deciding to educate their children themselves are: distrust of the state education system; fear of bullying or worse of their children; a desire to teach their children in a more conventional or religious manner.

There are education packages that parent-teachers can buy to give them a course of action on what to teach. There is also a lot of help available on the Internet. The problem facing any parents who wish to educate their own children is providing a rounded education.

People have a natural tendency to specialize in one subject or group of topics like, say, astronomy or the sciences, which is why schools supply numerous teachers, so that every one can teach his or her favourite subject. However, if you are the only teacher you will have to teach all the subjects yourself.

This is why it is best to have a course or set of guidelines to follow. It is difficult to teach maths if you have no talent for it, so look at your strengths but also your weaknesses before you take the considerable decision to withdraw your children from school and educate them themselves

Anger Management For Kids

October 11th, 2010

Anger, which is a perfectly normal emotion, can transform itself into something frightening and ugly. The first impression you may have of anger issues may bring about images of a couple fighting, a parent abusing a child or a teenager lashing out at a teacher or a parent. Rarely will images of angry children come to mind. Unfortunately children, at very young ages, have to deal with emotions of anger and rage. This is a truth which is often very difficult for adults to understand or deal with.

Children, young children especially, aren't normally aware of their emotions. When a child becomes upset or mad they simply show these emotions through their behaviour. A good instance of this might be a small boy in a supermarket who throws a tantrum because he's upset. Many parents have had to deal with similar circumstances. It is unfortunate that often these occurrences are overlooked or dismissed because they are "just children". Anger management in kids is just as important, or probably even more important than anger management in grown-ups.

A child needs instruction and guidance from their delivery into the world to their entrance into adulthood. The things they learn throughout their young lives are likely to form the person they become as an adult. Therefore, anger management in kids with difficulties controlling their foul temper is crucial important. So, finding methods of teaching anger management for kids usually presents challenges.

There are programmes designed specifically for children with frustration, anxiety and anger management issues. Finding one that works for a particular child might require testing many methods. Not all youths will respond to the same treatments for anger management for children. Because a child cannot always relate their feelings surrounding angry outburst, finding the right approach may take some time. Until the issue is resolved or at least controlled, it is imperative to continue the search.

Young youths may respond well to worksheets, games and fun activities. All of these can be used effectively to teach anger management for kids. Developing programs which incorporate each of these might be the best route to take. A child completing a worksheet, colouring sheet or participating in games and activities with underlying messages regarding anger management, may not even realize they are working on their problem.

Making the activity fun doesn't mean that the anger issue has to be omitted. Choosing fun activities which teach healthy interaction and decision making might be good for anger management for children. Teaching them to take turns and helping them to learn that they can't always be the best or the winner would definitely make a difference when confrontational situations occur. Small activities which instill values and positive thinking would be beneficial for anger management for kids.

If a kid is old enough to discuss their anger-related problems, encouraging them to share their feelings is very important. Suggesting that they talk to someone with whom they feel comfortable and trust is a good idea regarding anger management for kids. Asking them to write or draw about their emotions may help them disclose their underlying problems, whether it be anxiety, pain or depression.

If you can teach them to ask for help when they feel threatened or angry, it would certainly help the child with an anger-related problem. The important thing to realize when thinking about anger management for kids is that they are just "children". Their minds are not able to handle adult situations and so they will need a much more careful approach.

Dealing With Stress

October 5th, 2010

We all know that stress is at a very high level for the vast majority of people and most of us have our own ways of coping with this stress. However, for those who do not know how to cope with stress, it is doubtless first useful to appreciate what stress is and how it can manifest itself.

Stress is most simply defined as: "A mentally or emotionally disruptive or upsetting condition occurring in response to adverse external influences and capable of affecting physical health, usually characterized by increased heart rate, a rise in blood pressure, muscular tension, irritability, and depression" (TheFreeDictionary.com).

There are many reasons why stress can come about, but the most common forms of stress come from finances, family, work, school, quarrels with friends and driving. The most stressful situations, however, are divorce, the death of a parent or spouse, moving house and changing job or school.

Since the causes of stress are so diverse, it is helpful to be able to ascertain where your stress is coming from, so that you know how to treat or prevent it. You have to get to know yourself to cope with your stress, because not all people respond in the same way to stress.

For instance, actors and top-flight business people often say that they need the buzz of stress to give their best performances. They have obviously learned how to exploit stress to their own advantage whether intuitively or by other ways. People who suffer from stress need to get to that phase.

When you have worked out what is causing your stress, you have a prospect of dealing with it. In fact, you have many chances of dealing with it. If the source of the stress is your employment, you may like to go for a drink with colleagues after work to talk things through once or twice a week, so long as you do not let it get out of hand and impinge on your family and your work.

Otherwise, you may go for a massage or a sauna or take regular weekend getaways either for pure relaxation or to follow a specific hobby such as hiking. In fact, a leisure pursuit of some kind is generally a good stress-reliever, even if the pastime itself is stressful. Just altering the routine seems to assist a lot of people. Some people turn to shopping and beauty salons.

A weekend picnic, communing with nature, or rambling are other major de-stressers. The point is that you have to find something that suits you. For example, I work alone all day and detest shopping, so when I have done my bit, I seek out people to have a conversation. My wife on the other hand spends all day with people, and likes to hose the garden alone at the end of her working day.

Other major stress dispersers are sports - either watching them or playing them. Playing is clearly healthier than watching, but given that stress is a major killer in the West, the reduction of stress is the central worry. Yoga and meditation are a good compromise between being active and passive in your dealing with stress.

Learning History At Home Schooling

October 2nd, 2010

Do you think that passing time in traditional classrooms is a waste of time? For some people, that is probably true. For example, an exam is due and the students are asked to memorize a lot of dates and names. However, after taking the exam, they will definitely forget 90% of those dates and names. That's what the majority of students do every time they have tests. If you are one of these people, you will find traditional history lessons boring, so home schooling, which concentrates more on the history of the world, will probably interest you more.

Simple memorization is not enough to know the importance of famous people and important events. Through home schooling in history, you can learn about the different cultures of the past in a unique, but interesting way - your own way! Through the study of history, you will also understand the current situation of the world today.

If you think that home schooling is the most effective option for your child's learning, you should also be prepared to take on some responsibilities. Since there will be no teacher physically present, you will have to supervise your child's educational progress yourself.

Let's just suppose that your child is interested in a particular sport. Through combining history and home schooling, you can start by simply putting a map on the wall of your child's bedroom and mark the location of his favourite sports team. Make sure that you track all the team's activities and schedules. Then, you could return to history lessons by reading biographies of the various athletes, who had been popular in the particular sport that your child follows. Apart from that, you could also study the history of that particular sport and discover where it started, its inventor, and the other things happening in that particular time in history.

For instance, if your child likes baseball, you can teach your child about the history baseball, government hearings on the use of steroids and other favourite hobbies during that period in time. But remember that you can apply this method to any interest such as dancing, cars or any invention. You can also have conversations with your child about current affairs or read interesting historical documents and other books. Aside from that, you could also watch documentaries together with the rest of the family. There are various resources that you can use while home schooling, like TV, maps, newspapers, books, a globe, an atlas, and encyclopedias. Because of the exciting adventures that you and your child will read about and see on film, your child will find it easier to remember the names and dates of the history lessons. After all, education is best when it is done in an interesting way.

These methods are recommended for when the child is still young, but once your child is older, you must choose an appropriate home schooling program that is suitable to his/her age group. The programs are available at the elementary, high school, and even college levels. You just have to search online for these different programs. A good thing about these programs is that you can tailor them to fit the needs of your child. However, you must ensure that all the lessons are followed by your child.

Once you and your child have decided to go for home schooling, you must be prepared for some changes to take place in your life. The learning environment will now be your home not a school and through the various resources that you can use including the computer and Internet.

Anger Management Technique

August 14th, 2010

Dealing with anger is never easy, since people are always facing problems and reasons for conflict. However, our anger management technique is very important. We have to deal with price increases, arguments, war, violence, crime, everyday common stupidity and continuous interruptions. There is not one solitary, single person in this often problematic life that has not gotten angry at some point in time.

Anger is an emotion we all have to deal with. Anger comes in many forms, but the root of anger is hatred or frustration as a result of a previous deception or disappointment, which boils down to poor anger management technique. This is true. But, true or not, even in the Bible it says that when the first man and woman were created on the earth, the first noted problem was when the Devil, in the form of a serpent, lied, deceiving Eve. Once the lie became apparent, the world began suffering many problems, including violence, murder, war, shortages, disease, weather disasters and so forth.

Ever since that first lie, the world has become more and more chaotic and continues to worsen as the years roll by. We can look at how a lie can instigate anger by looking at an individual case. A person engaged in criminal activities, such as stealing, writing bad checks, and selling prescription medications. Now this person felt she had to use deception, since she felt that her behaviour and actions were her only means of survival.

So, she started lying to cover up her crimes. As the years went by, that person became angry and could not cope, solely as a result of the way she was behaving, her way of thinking, her poor anger management technique, the way she was living her life. That person began acting as anyone suffering from uncontrolled anger would act.

This included, putting others down, insulting others, verbally and physically assaulting, threatening, belittling and mocking others. The woman was diagnosed with a mental disorder, Post traumatic Stress Disorder and Bipolar. She also had health issues, including diabetes. Now if we examine all the aspects of that person's anger and her anger management technique, we can see, if we search deep enough, that her lying, which caused paranoia, was the root cause of her behavioral problems.

These days, so many people have a problem with their anger management technique. Many of the people with post-traumatic stress disorder react in an angry way because they are reacting to a flashback in memory. Yes! People with post traumatic stress disorder often suppress their negative emotions and when they get in a violent situation or are angered, it is often the result of fighting the sources that caused their trauma in the first place and not the person in their presence.

But, we do not see this as the reason for the woman's fury, since she did not make the problem public knowledge. Therefore, people would not think of post traumatic stress disorder as the cause, or at least skip over the possibility of it. So, now let's examine diabetes, since this illness has an affect on the nerves. The shortage of insulin creates other problems too, but many people with diabetes will become upset for little or no reason at all.

However, most people do not act angrily, assault, insult or attack others . If we examine the reason crimes are committed, we see that very often, serious behavioural problems come from lying. Therefore, when we look at this woman's case again, we can see that we have to deal with the underlying problems ie to stop her from lying and get her to move forward, avoiding bouts of frustration, anxiety and anger by employing an anger management technique.

Now, this person is in denial, which means that until the legal system makes her take steps to anger management technique, then she probably will not get seek herself. In addition, even if the criminal justice system does force her to get help, it probably will not work, since her denial has existed for probably many years. Now we are dealing with a real problem in anger management technique , since her behaviour is life long, which means extensive therapy isneeded.

Anger is a normal emotion, but when it interferes with another person's life, it becomes a serious problem. This person is not hurting only one person, she is hurting everyone, because when she steals or writes bad checks, society picks up the tab with tax increases, as well as other levies. One of the worst problems that I have noticed with this type of person, is that the system and society allows it to continue; only attempting to deal with it when the person is in custody. Once the person is released, then it begins all over again. This is a chain of events involving lack of control due to anger mis-management and bad anger management technique.

Are Warts Dangerous?

July 25th, 2010

Do you have warts on your skin? If so, you are certainly not the only one. A large number of Americans have warts. In fact, many individuals have more than one wart. If you have a wart, are you thinking about having it removed? Although you might think that you should to have it removed, the choice is really all yours to make. In almost all cases, wart removal is completely optional.

If you have a wart or several of warts on your body, you may already know what they are and how they are caused, however, I want to say that warts are known to be caused by a strain of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). In most cases, warts are totally harmless. This is because they are 'benign skin growths'. 'Benign' is another word used to mean 'non-cancerous'. Therefore, since there is a good chance that your wart is completely harmless, you do not have to have it removed.

Although you do not necessarily need to have warts removed, you may nevertheless want to. Despite being harmless and usually painless, there are some warts that can be painful. In most cases, you will find that any pain from warts depends on where it is located. For instance, warts on your feet may be painful, if you are walking on them each day. Also, warts on your hands may be painful, if you use your hands all day at work. If that is the case, you may seriously want to have your warts removed. After removal, you will probably find yourself without pain.

You may also want to have your warts removed if they are very noticeable. Everybody knows that some warts, especially large ones, are unflattering. All right, you shouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks, but you do have to do what is right for you. Therefore, if your warts are causing you discomfort, physically or mentally, maybe you should think about having them removed.

One should be aware that warts are contagious, although it doesn't always happen that way, because some individuals are more susceptible to warts than others. However, you do not know who those individuals are, so you should think about having your warts removed anyway.

You may want to do this, wherever your warts are, but especially so, if the warts are on your hands, because of human contact. If you regularly mix in company, maybe you ought to think about wart removal for their sakes, if not your own.

If you want to have your warts removed, you have a number of options. You can have your warts removed by your doctor within a matter of minutes, if you are worried about the cost of seeing a healthcare professional, you should be able to perform your own wart removal. This can be done by buying over-the-counter (OTC) wart removal products. These products can be bought at a reasonable price at most grocery stores. You could try home remedies, although you should exercise caution when using them. Home remedies can be found online with an Internet search engine.

Nevertheless, the final decision is yours alone as to whether or not you want to have your wart removed. However, although it may not look like a big decision to have to take, it is really. Wart removal is not always guaranteed - your warts can come back overtime and therefore, you should thoroughly weigh up all of your choices before taking the plunge.
